One: the new audio and video compilation by The Beatles

A new audio and video The Beatles compilation titled "One" is set to be released on 6th November.

Showcasing the band’s filmed work to accompany their 27 No.1, U.K. and U.S. singles, The Beatles 1 is newly restored and expanded in multiple configuration.
The 27-track CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray pairs beautifully restored videos for each song, with new stereo and 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS HD surround audio mixes. The brand new Beatles 1+ celebrates their career in over 200 minutes through 50 promotional films and videos. This includes the 27 No.1s, with the restored videos, along with a second disc of 23 videos, including alternate versions, as well as rarely seen and newly restored films and videos; all include new audio mixes in deluxe CD/2-DVD and CD/2-Blu-ray packages. The 27-track audio CD is also being made available with new stereo mixes. A 2 LP, 180-gram vinyl package will follow.

The new editions of The Beatles 1 have been made possible following extensive research, and restoration of the original promo films, classic television appearances and other carefully selected videos spanning the band’s history.
Apple Corps dug deep into The Beatles’ vaults to select a broad range of films and videos for their rarity, historical significance and quality of performance. An 18-person team of film and video technicians and restoration artists was assembled by Apple Corps to undertake painstaking frame-by-frame cleaning, colour-grading, digital enhancement and new edits that took months of dedicated, ‘round-the-clock work to accomplish.
The result is a visual run down of The Beatles’ number one records, as well as the additional tracks on the bonus disc of Beatles 1+ that show the band in previously unseen standards of clarity and quality; many of the films and videos have never before been commercially released, in whole or in part.

Beatles 1 and Beatles 1+ offers the restored films, including 35mm negatives scanned in 4K and digitally restored with new stereo and 5.1 surround audio remixes, produced from the original analogue tapes by the team of Giles Martin with Sam Okell at Abbey Road Studios.

For four of the videos, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have provided exclusive audio commentary and filmed introductions, respectively. The 1+ Deluxe Edition, presented in an expanded 124-page illustrated hardcover book includes ‘an appreciation’ of The Beatles’ ground-breaking films and videos by music journalist and author Mark Ellen and extensive, detailed track/video annotation by music historian and author Richard Havers.

• 21. HEY JUDE
  Filmed at Twickenham Film Studios on 4 September, for broadcast on David Frost’s TV show, Frost On Sunday. The introduction by David Frost is different from that on disc 2.
• 22. GET BACK
  The promo clip made available at the time of the original release of the single featured performances from the Apple rooftop synched to the record. This new clip has been rebuilt to replicate the original but with improved picture quality.
• 23. THE BALLAD OF JOHN AND YOKO
  This original promo clip features outtakes from the Let It Be movie, with other private footage shot in Amsterdam, London, Paris and Vienna.
• 24. SOMETHING
  The video features George and Pattie, John and Yoko, Paul and Linda, and Ringo and Maureen. and was filmed at locations in Berkshire, Surrey, and the Mull of Kintyre.
• 25. COME TOGETHER
  The clip was created in 2000 by Melon Dezign for the launch of thebeatles.com and the original Beatles 1 album.
• 26. LET IT BE
  A 1970 promo clip was made available to support the release of the single and it was different to the one featured in the Let It Be movie; this clip has been rebuilt from the original footage.

• 3. WORDS OF LOVE
  When On Air – Live At The BBC Volume 2 was released in 2013, it included ‘Words Of Love’, a Buddy Holly composition that the band recorded for radio. This new clip is a mix of existing footage and innovative animation.
• 4. PLEASE PLEASE ME
  A live performance videotaped on 9 February for The Ed Sullivan Show, which was screened on 23 February 1964.
• 5. I FEEL FINE
  Filmed at Twickenham Film Studios on 23 November 1965, this clip shows The Beatles eating fish and chips during their lunch break.
• 6. DAY TRIPPER
  From the TV special The Music Of Lennon & McCartney that first broadcast in mid-December 1965.

  This black and white clip is a new edit from several takes of ‘Rain’ videotaped at Abbey Road on 19 May 1966.
• 12. STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER
  Directed by Peter Goldmann and with newly restored footage, this was filmed at Knole Park, Kent on 30 and 31 January 1967.
• 13. WITHIN YOU WITHOUT YOU/TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS
  The merging of these two tracks, one from Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the other from Revolver, was created for The Beatles Love show by Cirque du Soleil, which opened in June 2006 in Las Vegas. This video was created to promote the Love album released later that year.
• 14. A DAY IN THE LIFE
  Filmed in Studio One at Abbey Road on 10 February 1967, this includes classical musicians, who were asked to wear evening dress, fake noses and funny hats for the recording session.
• 15. HELLO, GOODBYE
  This clip is another shot at London’s Saville Theatre on 10 November 1967; The Beatles wear their ‘street clothes’.
• 16. HELLO, GOODBYE
  This third version was also shot at London’s Saville Theatre on 10 November 1967; it includes elements from the first two films but with additional footage unique to this edit.
• 17. HEY BULLDOG
  The original footage from a 1968 shoot for the ‘Lady Madonna’ promo film was unearthed in the mid-1990s. It was revealed that The Beatles were recording ‘Hey Bulldog’ and is an edit done to promote the reissue of the Yellow Submarine movie in 1999. 
• 18. HEY JUDE
  This is an edit of the two other takes filmed on 4 September 1968 for the Frost On Sunday TV show. This has a different David Frost intro to the clip on disc 1.
• 19. REVOLUTION
  One of two versions, this was shot the same day as ‘Hey Jude’. John’s lead vocal is completely live, as are most of Paul and George’s backing vocals. The instrumentation, including Nicky Hopkins’ electric piano, is from the master tape.
• 20. GET BACK
  This clip was assembled in 2003 to support the release of the album Let It Be…Naked and utilises studio footage from the famous Get Back/Let It Be sessions.
• 21. DON’T LET ME DOWN
  This was the B-side of ‘Get Back’ and this clip is a composite of two live performances from the Apple rooftop in 1969. It was made available to support the release of Let It Be…Naked in 2003.
• 22. FREE AS A BIRD
  The 1995 video is a work of art by director Joe Pytka, who used the concept of a bird’s-eye view to pay homage to many Beatles songs and images.
• 23. REAL LOVE
  This video directed by Geoff Wonfor and ex-10cc and leading pop promo-maker Kevin Godley, this video was made in 1996 to support the release of the single.

Il film dei Beatles A Hard Day’s Night del 1964 uscirà il prossimo 21 Luglio in Bluray e DVD in una versione restaurata a 4k, approvata dal regista Richard Lester, contenente anche una colonna sonora ricreata in 5.1 DTS-HD surround (ma anche in stereo e mono), supervisionata da Giles Martin (il figlio di George) agli studi Abbey Road.

New Simply Red deluxe expanded editions: Home, Simplified, Stay, Live in Sicily, Cuba!

Simply Red so far have released all their albums as deluxe editions, except for the last three, which were released under their own label simplyred.com.
At last we finally get news about the missing album being released as deluxe editions under Edsel Records on 30th June, and it seems the news are very good for Simply Red fans!
While Simplified (2005) and Stay (2007) have been expanded to a 2CD+DVD set, Home (2003) is even a 3CD+DVD set! The audio bonuses are basically all the B-sides which have been released along with the singles off the albums, including several remixes and live tracks (for Stay there's also one new song not included in the original album), while each DVD features a Mick Hucknall recent interview commenting on the album, the official promo videos for the album's singles along with some "making of" and album EPKs and, most surprisingly, some TV performances taken from BBC archives!


This Edsel campaign about Simply Red will also feature the re-release of two concert videos, released at the time only as DVDs. Now Home Live In Sicily and Cuba! are re-released as 4-discs set each: one BluRay (in fact the original films are in HD), one DVD and two CDs with the whole concert in audio only. Of course the original bonus documentaries and features are present too.

I Toto annunciano l'uscita in audio e video del loro concerto in Polonia

Oltre due anni fa vi avevamo annunciato un imminente DVD di un concerto dei Toto a Verona che però, non si sa per quale motivo, non è mai uscito.
Adesso finalmente ci sono di nuovo buone notizie per i numerosi fan della band: è stata annunciata per il 29 Aprile l'uscita del concerto che i Toto hanno tenuto a Lodz, Polonia, lo scorso 25 Giugno 2013 nell'ambito del loro tour per il 35° Anniversario; il concerto, intitolato 35TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR - LIVE IN POLAND, uscirà nei seguenti formati:

“Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live In Budapest” è il concerto che i Queen tennero nel 1986 al Népstadion della capitale ungherese, e che, essendo uscito solo in VHS all'epoca, adesso esce in versione rimasterizzata in CD, DVD e Blu-Ray e in parallelo esce anche nei cinema.

Le versioni DVD e Blu-Ray sono state rimasterizzate in alta definizione (HD) e Surround Sound 5.1, durano 118 minuti e contengono come extra un documentario di 25 minuti intitolato "A Magic Year", che segue la band dal Luglio 1985 (subito dopo la loro storica apparizione al Live Aid) fino appunto al concerto di Budapest; il documentario, creato appositamente per quest'uscita, contiene filmati d'archivio e interviste ai quattro Queen, sia in studio che in giro durante il tour, tra cui alcune interviste mai viste prima.

Vari formati previsti per questa uscita: solo DVD; solo Blu-Ray; edizione deluxe con 2CD e DVD; edizione deluxe con 2CD e Blu-Ray; download digitale (solo audio).

Il video dei Supertramp a Parigi nel 1979: un sogno che finalmente si realizza

Uno degli album più famosi dei Supertramp e anche uno dei più venduti a livello mondiale è senza dubbio "Breakfast in America" del 1979. Subito dopo l'uscita dell'album, che generò anche quattro singoli di enorme successo, i Supertramp si imbarcarono in un tour mondiale di 10 mesi che nel Novembre del 1979 fece tappa anche a Parigi per due sere consecutive. Da questi concerti francesi nacque un anno il famoso album live "Paris", testimonianza (purtroppo parziale) di quei concerti che vedevano i Supertramp al top della forma.

Quando anni dopo nacque il mercato degli home-video, i fan dei Supertramp sperarono in una uscita del concerto su VHS, che però non avvenne mai, in quanto pare che i filmati dei concerti non fossero disponibili, e solo negli anni vennero poi resi disponibili in alcuni documentari dei frammenti del concerto...troppo poco però per i palati fini dei fan di Roger Hodgson e Rick Davies (i due leader del gruppo)!

Quindi "il video di Paris" ha sempre rappresentato per i collezionisti del gruppo il sacro Graal, un obettivo mitologico e irraggiungibile che instancabilmente si cercava ma che nessuno sembrava avere....

Qualche anno fa una notizia che sembrava avere dell'incredibile: i nastri originali del video sono stati ritrovati nella stalla del batterista Bob Siebenberg, nascosti sotto un mucchio di letame; non ci è dato sapere come e quando ci fossero finiti, ma subito dopo il ritrovamento sono stati portati in un centro specializzato per essere restaurati e trasferiti in digitale...e a quel punto per tutti gli appassionati dei Supertramp si è riaccesa la speranza.

Gli anni passano ancora e si susseguono più volte delle "false uscite" di un fantomatico DVD di Paris, ogni volta prima annunciato e poi ritirato; voci di corridoio dicono infatti che i cinque membri originali della band non riescano a trovare un accordo e che ci siano problemi legali per fare uscire il video.

Ebbene, finalmente il giorno è arrivato e la notizia è ormai sicura e ufficiale: il 27 Agosto uscirà sia in DVD che in Blu-Ray il tanto atteso video del concerto che i Supertramp tennero al  Pavillion di Parigi nel Novembre del 1979!

	L'unica piccola pecca è che purtroppo le ultime cinque canzoni sono disponibili solamente in audio e non in video, perchè a quanto pare non sono state ritrovate le relative sorgenti video (non è dato sapere se piuttosto siano state rovinate dal troppo letame...).
	Completa il tutto l'audio 5.1 remixato dai multitraccia originali dal produttore originale Peter Henderson e il video in full HD, per una durata di 107 minuti.
	Sicuramente un pezzo di storia della musica di cui consigliamo l'acquisto anche a chi ha una conoscenza superficiale del gruppo, o a chi magari non conoscendolo si voglia accingere a scoprirlo.

La Magica Ora degli Scissor Sisters

Vi avevamo già anticipato in un articolo di qualche mese fa che gli Scissor Sisters erano al lavoro su un nuovo album, da cui era già stato estratto il primo singolo "Shady Love"; adesso l'album, registrato tra Londra e New York, è pronto e uscirà il 28 Maggio con il titolo di "Magic Hour".

L'album si avvale della presenza di vari collaboratori, tra cui Pharrell Williams, Diplo, Alex Rihda, Azealia Banks e Calvin Harris; quest'ultimo, conosciuto da Shears mentre collaborava all'album Aphrodite di Kylie Minogue, ha co-prodotto il secondo singolo "Only The Horses", in uscita il 13 Maggio su iTunes e facente parte di un pacchetto contenente anche due remix e un medley di brani dall'album come anticipazione.

Il cantante Jake Shears ha affermato a proposito del nuovo album che è una dolce e gioiosa miscela di pop futuristico guidato dal ritmo.

Il 16 e 17 Maggio gli Scissor faranno due concerti all'O2 Shepherds Bush Empire di Londra, mentre tra Giugno e Luglio faranno concerti in Stati Uniti e Canada.

Le varie edizioni della ristampa di RAM di Paul McCartney

Già da settimane circolava la notizia che il 21 Maggio sarebbe uscita in varie versioni la riedizione di RAM, l'album del 1971 di Paul e Linda McCartney che moltissimi fan includono tra i loro preferiti della discografia dell'ex-Beatles, che qui si avvale (come spesso avverrà anche negli anni a seguire) della collaborazione della moglie, fotografa di professione ma per hobby anche cantante, tastierista e compositrice.

Solo oggi però sul sito ufficiale del Macca compaiono le tracklist ufficiali delle varie versioni, su cui finora circolavano solo ipotesi e speculazioni; ecco dunque il resoconto completo:

RAM, registrato nella fattoria scozzese dei McCartney tra il 1970 e il 1971, vede anche la partecipazione del batterista Denny Seiwell e dei chitarristi David Spinozza e Hugh McCracken, e ottenne il primo posto nella classifica inglese e il secondo in quella USA e vinse persino un Grammy per gli arrangiamenti vocali.

Questa riedizione fa parte del progetto "Paul McCartney Archive Collection", che si propone di rimasterizzare tutti gli album del baronetto con l'aggiunta di materiale raro e inedito, e che ha già visto in precedenza altri tre album subire questo trattamento: Band On The Run, McCartney e McCartney II.

Yellow Submarine, il cartone dei Beatles in DVD e Blu-Ray

Il film animato del 1968 Yellow Submarine, che vede protagonisti le versioni a cartone animato dei Beatles e che ovviamente vede le loro canzoni fare da colonna sonora, uscirà il prossimo 28 Maggio in versione restaurata, su DVD e Blu-Ray; con l'occasione verrà rilasciata anche una nuova versione su CD della colonna sonora.


Il film è stato restaurato fotogramma per fotogramma con la risoluzione digitale 4K, e tra i contenuti extra troveremo: un documentario di 7 minuti e mezzo col dietro le quinte della lavorazione intitolato Mod Odissey, il trailer cineamtografico originale, commenti audio del produttore John Coates e del direttore artistico Heinz Edelmann, varie interviste ad altri personaggi coinvolti nel film (doppiatori, autori e animatori) alcune sequenze del copione, 29 disegni fatti a mano e 30 foto del dietro le quinte.
Inoltre sia il DVD che il Blu-Ray saranno inclusi in una confezione digipack che includerà anche delle riproduzioni dei fotogrammi in celluloide, adesivi da collezione e un libretto di 16 pagine con uno scritto di John Lasseter.
L'audio, presente oltre che in lingua originale anche in Italiano, sarà disponibile in mono (come l'originale), Dolby stereo e 5.1 DTS; presenti anche i sottotitoli in italiano.
